13 – Lucky or Unlucky Friday?
Friday the 13th reared it’s ugly head again, and how many of you went about their day worrried about whether their luck was going to hold up, or whether the stars were in alignment or whether to just stay home in bed and wait it out?
Well forget it. I did a little research on the number 13 and found an almost even split as to whether it was lucky or unlucky. So as a firm believer in making one’s own luck, I decided to skip level 12 of the Kettlebell Fitness protocol and celebrate the 13th by giving level 13 a go.
I’m still using the one-arm jerk, snatch and long cycle with the 16 kg kettlebell. Level 13 moves the work sets up to 2’30″ a piece (5’00 total right and left) with 2’00″ rest periods. The max reps for each exercise is 40 for the jerk and snatch and 25 for the long-cycle.
Once again, I found the step up to be challenging but worthwhile. 40 reps is a lot for each hand but I found myself completing those 40 before the 2’30″ time period was up. This just means I need to work on my pacing a bit and take a litle longer rest in the rack or lockout as I go.
Monday will be another go at level 13, and maybe Wednesday as well. Once I hit level 20, I’m going to shift gears and start again with my 20 kg bell. I think I’ll probably try mixing in some double kettlebell work as well, to work on my rack and pacing.
