Girevik Triathlon Training – G.T.T.

Girevik Triathlon Training – G.T.T. (trademark, copyright, etc. etc.).  It’s mine.  GTT.  Send me an e-mail for affiliate use of this new term.  GPP and SPP are old news.  Say hello to GTT!  And no, there’s no swimming involved.

O.K., it’s not really new.  Maybe you’ve heard of the biathlon in Girevoy Sport.  The jerk and the snatch, each performed for 10 minutes straight (with a break between them) during the same meet for max reps.

So why not do a triathlon then?  Jerk, Snatch and long cycle, all in the same workout?  Girevik Triathlon Training!

Alright.  Forget the hype.  I did another WKC Fitness workout at level 7 doing the jerk, snatch and long cycle with the 16 kg kettlebell.  I won’t bore you with my numbers, but they were the same as yesterday’s.  I’ve been finishing each side with about 7-9 seconds to spare, so rather than wait for my time to expire, I immediately switch hands and do the opposite side.  I then let the time run out if there’s extra seconds by holding the bell in the overhead lockout.  I’ll switch hands for this too, so one side doesn’t get jealous of the other.

I’m going to move up to level 8 next and see if I can keep my reps up while shortening the rest periods.

I’ve taken to heart the more accomplished AKC members and coaches who recommend training with the lighter bell and slowly building up one’s strength and endurance.  With this fitness workout, I’m still practicing the competition lifts, but I’m also doing them in a manner that makes working out satisfying and not a dreaded experience.  These workouts aren’t a breeze by any means, but they almost guarantee steady progress if you’re willing to put in the effort and push yourself just a bit.

Can I coin the acronym “GT”? For Girevoy Trifecta. My GS style training resulted in my workout sessions using the GT as a test to see if I am prepared to increase intensity. If I can pass the GT in the allotted time, at the max recommended rep pace, then I move up to the next level in the following session. Keep on jerkin’!
