A Cocktail?

Sure!  Think about it like this.  The WKC fitness program is like a yummy mixture of strength training combined with endurance training.  Except you’re not stuck in the weightroom with the over-testosteroned meat heads and you not out running 10 miles with your anorexic neighbor at 5 a.m. either.

It is, the super cocktail.  And as long as you don’t slam it down in one gulp, it can make you feel really, really good.

Level 2 of the Long Islander

I was solo today as my wife was stuck at work until 7:30 this evening.

I moved up to level 2, which at this point in the program is not that big of a stretch, as the rest periods only decrease by thirty seconds.  And with this weight, that’s not too big of a stretch for me.  Don’t get me wrong, though, it’s not a walk in the park either.  I worked up a decent sweat on my way to the bottom of the glass.  But when I was done, I felt great.

As I lifted, I concentrated on different points for each of the three lifts.  For the clean, I tried to get the bell into the crook of my arm as gently as possible and tried to keep my neutral grip.

For the 1/2 Snatch, I focused on snapping the hips to get the bell up (not hardstyle though), and the lockout, where I waited for a “one-one thousand” count.

And finally, for the long cycle push press, I focused on the same points in the clean, the knee dip, false grip, and the lockout.

Get a Designated Driver

In order to get the most out of this super cocktail program, you should really have a designated driver (coach).  With a coach, you’ll learn the fine points and shortcuts for the individual lifts as well as get an idea about how hard you should be working at each individual level.  If you can, I would suggest getting a Girevoy Sport-trained coach to spend some time with you in order to evaluate your form and goals.  Without that, your left with reading a book or watching videos on YouTube, which are really no substitute for one-on-one coaching.  But if that’s all you’ve got, then make the most of it.
