Girevoy Sport – Fitness Level 13

girevoy sport, kettlebell sport, kettlebell fitnessWe took 7 days of rest and got back to it.  Last week we left off at level 12 of the World Kettlebell Club‘s fitness protocol.  We hadn’t planned on taking this much time off, but life sometimes has a way of intruding and sometimes it’s best to just go with the flow.

Instead of backing off and starting back at level 10 or 11, I wanted to stay on schedule and hit levels 13 and 14 this week.

Moving up adds thirty seconds of time to our work sets and resets the rest periods to two minutes.  That also brings our rep counts up to 40 for each 2’:30″ period of cleans, and 25 reps for each 2’30” period of half-snatches and longcycle pushpresses.

The combo of the week layoff and the increased workload made for a fun but challenging workout.  I’m still very pleased with this system and don’t feel burned-out or bored.

After we get too level 20, I’m going to attempt to make Rank III, and then switch to a more formal GS training methodology.  I’ve been re-reading Paul Tucker’s Downunder Guide to Navigating Girevoy Sport and he has some interesting training templates that I’d like to try.  I actually read this book a year or so ago and had planned on posting a review here.  For whatever reason, that slipped to the bottom of my pile of things to do and I forgot about my promise.  Nevertheless, I should have that up within the next week or so, so please check back in, it’s a really great guide.  Very comprehensive.
