First Girevoy Sport Workout of 2009

by admin on January 4, 2009

I was lazy and skipped my workout Friday. I had planned on Long Cycle Clean and Jerk practice but got busy with things around the house. Some things are just more important than others.
My plan for 2009 is to make rank in the WKC system, level VII at a minimum.  I’m not in [...]

Girevoy Sport Requires Cardio - Run!

by admin on December 31, 2008

As part of my prep for Girevoy Sport training in 2009, I’ve started running again.  I’ve got a quick route around my neighborhood that’s exactly one mile.  And that’s exactly what I started with.  My  Cameron and I launched ourselves out the front door at about 5:30 and made it back by about 5:40.  I didn’t [...]

Those of us interested in Girevoy Sport know that the proper kettlebell will help with achieving your training goals.  The shape of the kettlebell helps the Girevik maintain a proper rack and prepares one for Girevoy Sport competitions.  Unfortunately, the cost of the Girevoy Sport-style kettlebell has kept many aspiring Gireviks from training as they [...]

Kettlebell Christmastime

by admin on December 25, 2008

Sure, it’s a corny title but Santa’s a Girevik too.  I’m happy ’cause I just got my AKC Pro-Grade 20 kg kettlebell yesterday, courtesy of my oldest son and daughter.
I’ll be posting some side-by-side photos of the PB and AKC bells shortly.  In the meantime, enjoy the day and all the blessings it brings to you [...]

I took a few days off since the IGX Challenge, and have been dealing with some personal issues as well, so 9 days had gone by since I picked up a kettlebell. Yes, I’m ashamed to admit it, but there it is.
I’m determined to continue to train at least twice a week before the end [...]

Those Damn Kettlebells!

by admin on December 10, 2008

December Kettlebell Challenge Lessons
After my first IGX Kettlebell Challenge, I thought I’d post a few thoughts on the preparation, the event itself and my plans for future training.
First off, as I was entering my first two minutes of snatching, I quickly realized that my endurance needs a lot of work.  I thought I had prepped enough, but [...]

December Kettlebell Challenge

by admin on December 7, 2008

This last week was a really hectic one on the personal side.  Still, I managed to get my two training days in prior to today’s meet.
Monday called for clean and jerk day, which for me was my “DKC” workout, consisting of the LCCJ, Clean and 1/2 Snatch.  I used the 20 kg for my LCCJ [...]

The Easy Way to 5000 Kettlebell Snatches

by admin on November 30, 2008

This past September I discovered a fellow kettlebell blogger who issued a challenge to complete 5000 kettlebell snatches in a month. The bad thing was I discovered it two weeks into the challenge. I wanted to participate, but I was already two weeks behind. At first glance it seemed like I had a lot of ground to make up.

Kettlebell Challenge Workouts
After working Monday night/Tuesday morning, I completed a long cycle-focused workout consisting of the following, which I named the “DKC”:

Long Cycle Clean & Jerk
Clean
Half snatch

Unfortunately, I only slept for about 3 hours prior to my workout, and I had a tough time getting it done.  I continued to use my 20 kg kettlebell [...]
